In the 12th parliamentary elections, the law-and-order forces are in the field with the latest technology. The Rapid Action Battalion is going to use this Onsite Identification and Verification System (OIVS) technology to identify outsiders in and around polling stations. In addition to fingerprints, information about anyone can be easily found on the mobile-like device with the information of national identity card number or date of birth.

If a person is a criminal, the device will notify law enforcement agencies of all information including their name and identity. If the person is a criminal or has a case in his name or is a fugitive accused, then this device will give information. At the same time the device can identify a missing person or even a dead person.

Regarding this, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of Law and Media Branch of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), said that this is the first time that RAB is using OIVS to ensure a fair and peaceful environment. With the aim of destroying the election environment, those who will try to deteriorate the law-and-order situation will be immediately confirmed and the perpetrators of violence will be easily identified and brought under the law through the device, including the detection of suspicious persons roaming around the polling station and its surrounding areas.

The press release issued by the RAB informed that the RAB is performing security duties along with other law and order forces in the security of the 12th Parliament elections. RAB members have been deployed in every parliamentary seat as mobile and striking force since December 29.

The Election Commission has instructed not to carry out campaigning and loitering around the polling stations from 8 am on Friday, 48 hours before polling.

Referring to the directive, RAB said that the patrol team will have OIVS to identify the outsiders in the polling station and its surrounding areas. Moreover, RAB will also use the device to detect whether the voters of one area are going to another area and are taking steps to create chaos or not.

RAB will also take legal action by using OIVS to identify criminals who have been absconding or hiding for a long time to cause chaos in the polls, according to the notification.

According to sources, the device has been used in 15 battalion and company levels of RAB and various levels of officers have been trained to operate it. Currently, company commanders of various battalions operate the device. Since the beginning of using the OIVS device, RAB has been successful in identifying criminals and identifying unknown victims.
